    General sources for reliable images:

The following resources include sharp images and often good search engines. In several cases the images are not protected by copyright or have been made available for non-commercial use in teaching and scholarship.

Art Images for College Teaching (AICT) (home page)

From the Minneapolis Academy of Art and Design- an invaluable site for excellent photographic images for teaching and scholarship (description).

    The Perseus Project

An incomparable source for images and texts; Roman Perseus is under construction.

    VRoma

An NEH-sponsored national collaborative project developing electronic resources for teaching Roman civilization. The Image Archive includes Roman art from AICT as well as many images not restricted by copyright.

    Mythology in Western Art

The Mythmedia project from the University of Haifa, is an important site for images related to classical mythology. Excellent source for images.

Maecenas: Images of Ancient Greece and Rome

Leo Curran at SUNY-Buffalo has made these images available with no restrictions except for commercial use.

    North Carolina Museum of Art

This site includes two useful Quick Time VR movies: one of a neck amphora and one of Alexander Archipenko’s "Blue Dancer."
